ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER

This coffee is a washed pink bourbon, which is known for a unique flavor profile with full juicy acidity and strong florals. It’s a relatively new varietal that has been introduced, and despite the name, is actually an Ethiopian landrace varietal.

This coffee is produced by Silvio Guerrero of Finca Los Capachos of the Llano region in Colombia. Silvio’s love of Llanera music inspired him to name his farm “Los capachos” - which is the musical instrument used by folks in the Llano region. Silvio started his farm 50 years ago, starting with sugar cane to produce panela, but transitioned to coffee 10 years ago. He started his farm with regional varieties such as castillo, but has since begun growing pink bourbon, gesha, sidra, and chiroso. The farm has a rich mineral soil that helps grow excellent specialty coffees, and continues to work towards sustainable farming systems and organic products to produce delicious washed coffees in a traditional way.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE

This coffee was a collaboration effort with our good friend Hydrangea Coffee Roasters, who introduced us to this lot and to Eyder, Silvio’s grandson. We’re excited to introduce our first ever pink bourbon varietal, as we’ve enjoyed the complex and enjoyable acidity and juiciness that this varietal brings. This lot demonstrates the characteristic complex juiciness of the varietal with a strong lingering finish that brings an enjoyable pleasant cup.
